Enhanced effects of ferulic acid against the harmful side effects of chemotherapy in colon cancer: docking and in vivo study

Abstract Background Colorectal cancer is considered a potential causative agent of morbidity and death, making it particularly dangerous malignancy. The current study aims to assess the efficacy ferulic acid (FA) attenuate harmful side effect 5-fluorouracil (5FU) in colon tissues induced by 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH). Results Regarding male Wistar-albino rats ( Rattus norvegicus ), combined FA 5FU showed approximately normal structure mucosa. treated groups remarkable reduction Ki67, Ck20, an elevation caspase-3 P53. There was significant upregulation P53 both FA–5FU p < 0.001 0.00001, respectively). Conclusions present results revealed role therapy suppression DMH apoptosis with clear attenuating effects on cells.
